HYDERABAD, May 12: Three water supply schemes have been prepared to ensure supply of filtered water to people of three talukas of Hyderabad. The schemes which will cost Rs390.823 have to be approved by the Provincial Development Working Party.

District government sources told Dawn on Thursday that the water supply schemes would be executed at water works of Paretabad, Hala Naka and Latifabad-4 out of a Rs1 billion package of schemes.

The sources, however, were not clear whether the schemes would be carried out from the Rs10.5 billion Hyderabad Development Package or these were in addition to the package.

It was learnt that the HDA had prepared 15 schemes against Rs990.09 million, three of which related to schemes of filter plants at Paretabad, Hala Naka water works and construction of filtration units at Latifabad-4.

Currently, the Water and Sanitation Agency supplies 40 million gallon filtered water to people, 30 MGD from new and 10MGD from old treatment plants. The rest of the population is supplied water from Hala Naka, Hussainabad and Paretabad water works, leading to complaints about water contamination in the areas.

The sources said work on the schemes would begin soon after approval from the Provincial Development Working Party.

The overall requirement of water of people of Hyderabad in three talukas is 60MGD while around 54.5 MGD is provided.
