PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Eng Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that peace has been restored both in the province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas so it is now the duty of public and private sectors to focus on promoting investment for strengthening the economy of the province.

He said that the country was leading towards economic stability. He said that the country had no dearth of natural resources, yet there was dire need to ensure their efficient utilisation.

He was addressing a ceremony held in the honour of newly elected cabinet of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) here on Monday.

“If we succeed in making best utilisation of the available means, not only the economic condition of the province and Fata will be improved but the entire country will also be greatly benefited,” said the governor.

Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Zahidullah Shinwari, FPCCI newly elected president Ghazanfar Bilour, SM Munir, Ifitkhar Ali Malik and a number of other industrialists and traders from all over the province were also present on the occasion.

He said that entrepreneurs and traders should play their significant role by availing the opportunities being offered under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to strengthening the national economy.

CONVOCATION: Addressing the convocation of Khyber Medical College here on Monday, the governor said that people associated with the profession of medical sciences should make the service to ailing humanity their core.

He said that institutions of higher learning were the centres of excellence in carrying out research and disseminating knowledge. “There is a need to put special efforts to further promote research activities,” he added.

Beside others, Provincial Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai, Khyber Medical University Vice-chancellor Dr Arshad Javaid, Khyber Medical College Dean Dr Noorul Iman, faculty members and parents of the graduating students were also present on the occasion.

Of all 500 passed out students, 29 graduates were honoured with gold medals for achieving distinctive positions.

Mr Jhagra said that government, parents of students and the society as a whole had pinned great expectations to the graduating medical professionals. “It is hoped that all of them will come up to the expectations of the nation,” he added.

The governor said that it was mandatory for health professionals to maintain high moral and professional standards, enhance professional knowledge and skills, follow the respective ethics and above all work with commitment and serve the ailing humanity with dedication.

He also announced Rs1 million for Khyber Medical College.
