ISLAMABAD, May 8: The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the International Atomic energy Agency (IAEA) have organized a week-long workshop for specialists from Monday on ‘new techniques in sealed sources and radiotracer preparation, injection and data logging’.

Experts from 10 member states of the Regional Cooperation Agreement will participate in the workshop.

The purpose of the workshop is to enhance the capability in using radiotracers as diagnostic tools in various disciplines of science and technology, particularly in the industrial sector.

The participants will be given orientation on the subject at IAEA-accredited Pinstech laboratories.

HOSPITALS: The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) is organizing two training workshops on ‘radiation protection and quality assurance in diagnostic and interventional radiology’ in collaboration with the IAEA.

The first workshop will be held at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi from May 9 to 13 and the second at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Lahore, from May 16 to 20.

Medical personnel from all major medical centres belonging to the PAEC and government and private hospitals where diagnostic radiology and radiotherapy is being carried out will attend the workshops.

Experts will tell the participants about the latest international radiation protection techniques and procedures being practised in the field.

They will deliver lectures on occupational, medical and public exposures with measures to avoid over-exposure to patients, radiation workers and the public.—APP
