BUNER: District election commissioner Jehanzeb Khan shared here the other day voter and polling station verification plan with the local heads of political parties, district government, administration, police and education departments during a meeting here.

The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner Zareeful Maani, DPO Irshad Khan Yousafzai, district nazim Dr Obaidullah Khan, naib nazim Yousaf Ali Khan, ASDO Amanul Mulk, PTI leaders Bakh Raad Khan and Riaz Khan, QWP’s Prof Hamidur Rehman Khan, Jamaat-i-Islami’s Ghulam Mustafa Khan and Abdul Younis Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Kamran Khan, Awami National Party’s Shujaat Ali Khan, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s Maulana Saeedur Rehman Mufakir and assistant commissioners of four tehsils of the district.

The DEC informed participants that 266 male teachers had been tasked with verifying 26,834 fresh CNICs, whose verification had been under way since Jan 15 and would be completed by Feb 8.

He said a total of 1,219 voters, who had been declared dead, will be verified for deletion from the voters list.

The DEC said the registration of new votes based on CNICs would continue until the announcement of the election schedule by the chief election commissioner.

He said based on the available data, the registered voters totaled 409,753, including 181,066 women, while the number of polling stations came to 352.

The DEC said 122 new blocks were to be created for elections.

He said under per election rules, the political parties were bound to follow the code of conducts.

He asked political parties to let women cast vote of their own free will and said agreements on the disenfranchisement of women would be a violation of election code of conduct leading to the cancelation of electoral exercise.

The participants assured the election commission of their complete support and cooperation in the holding of elections in the district freely, fairly and transparently.
