KARACHI: Rank outsider chestnut horse Race shocked favourite filly Snow White in a close finish to land the Dreamer Cup in the winter Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

Having finished third in his first outing of New Year in the same scale order last weekend, Race presented owner Aziz-ul-Haq Rind with a winner edging the public fancy horse by head.

Chestnut horse Big Smo, who was withdrawn at declaration in his last race on Jan six, settled third half-a- length behind while chestnut horse Olympus One completed the frame beaten by a length-and-a-half among seven starters.

It was the supporting event of the day’s races and contested over five furlongs.

Unknown pedigree bay mare Zareen, who was denied to stretch her winning run by Sayeen Jee last weekend, returned to winning ways galloping to a whooping nine lengths victory over stable mate Cherish to win the next race, which was also the feature event.

The victorious Zareen was ridden home by Mohammad Sajjad, who was declared Champion Rider of the Year (2017) and sent by trainer Mohyuddin.

Both Zareen and Cherish belonged to the stables of the KRC patron Syed Singhatullah Shah Pir Pagara.

Lovely Baby had to be content with third place, three-and-a-half lengths away while My Beauty completed the board further beaten by nine lengths.

At the outset, co-favourite unknown pedigree bay horse Usman Prince presented his owner Haji Sahib Jan with a maiden winner in the opening race by getting the better of mare Salam Kashmir as co-favourite mare Sweet Sereena was placed third ahead of Sonia Again.

Carrying from where she had left in the preceding year, favourite mare Winter opened the New Year on winning note galloping to a splendid 10 lengths victory over Black Darling in the second race to the delight of punters.

It is pertinent to mention that Winter had won the last two races of the preceding year.

Shandar Love and Day Breaker followed the next two places on board respectively.
