ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has initiated a probe into a possible collusion among various market players to set prices in the poultry sector.
The inquiry came amid reports of communication taking place among sector players in order to set prices.
A team of authorised CCP officers recently inspected a premise occupied by a poultry association in Lahore and impounded material evidence.
The committee tasked with the investigation will examine all the proofs and report its findings.
The poultry sector has been inspected and penalised by CCP on previous occasions as well
In 2010 CCP fined Pakistan Poultry Association with Rs50 million for cartelisation in several poultry markets, and in 2016, again, sentenced them to Rs100m penalty for fixing prices.
Collusive activities are prohibited under the Competition Act, 2010.
