ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: The United Nations has decided to constitute on 22nd a special independent commission to facilitate the convening of Loya Jirga in Afghanistan, UN officials said.

According to officials, the UN would constitute the special commission to convene the emergency Loya Jirga.

Officials said the UN special representative for Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, is holding meetings in Kabul to support the country’s political transition.

Mr Brahimi, officials said, also met members of the diplomatic community accredited to the Afghan capital and emphasized that the donor community and many countries of the world were working together to help Afghanistan stand on its own feet.

Mr Brahimi during the meetings emphasized that according to the Bonn Agreement there must be wide consultation in the country to ensure representation of all areas and ethnic groups.
