TANK, Jan 6: The district police of Tank, in their drive against anti-social elements, have arrested a number of proclaimed offenders wanted in different serious crimes and recovered narcotics and stolen vehicles from their possession.

Those arrested during the last couple of days were wanted in murder, attempt to murder, carjacking, drug-trafficking and other serious crimes committed during 2001.

The district police superintendent, Mohammad Anwarullah Khan, had constituted a special team comprising SHO of Tank Abdul Aziz, CIA sub-inspector Salahuddin, SHO Mulazai Mohammad Saeed and SDPO of Tank Ashraf Zaman, that raided the hideouts of the criminals and proclaimed offenders in the Mulazai area here.

After a heavy exchange of fire, the police arrested one   Wazir Khan Kundi, who was wanted in various criminal cases to Tank, DI Khan, Pezu and Mulazai police, while another PO Jabbar Bhittani, who was seriously injured in the firing, was also taken into custody. The police also recovered two Kalashnikovs and several rounds of different bores.

In another raid, the police party arrested two other proclaimed offenders, Khurshid Alam Bhittani and Aftab Bhittani and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

The Tank city police arrested one Mohammad Gul and recovered a 7mm rifle and 30-bore pistols with 25 rounds from his possession. The accused was wanted in a murder case.

The police also arrested Zar Khan, Ibrahim Gul, Rashid and Hamidullah and recovered a Chinese rifle, a 32-bore pistol, a shotgun with 30 rounds, a Kalashnikov with 90 rounds and stolen household items, including six electric fans and carpets from their possession.

During its operation against car thieves, the police recovered two stolen Datsun pick-ups (PRP-8682 and BUB-4636).

Besides, the police arrested Mohammad Noor, Shahpoor, Rahim Din and Mohammad Saeed and recovered 99 gram heroin,   10 gram charas and illicit arms from them.
