KARACHI, MAY 4: Director General Marine Fisheries Department (MFD) Syed Qamar Raza said on Wednesday that 11 seafood processing factories have been allowed to export seafood to European Union. Talking to APP, he said that EU Food and Veterinary Office has released the list of 11 seafood processing factories in Pakistan on its website which are qualified to export seafood to the European Union.

He said that MFD will send its plan for the improvement of Karachi Fish Harbour and modification of fishing boats to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) in next two to three days for approval.

“I have requested them to submit this report on immediate basis so that it can be sent to the Ministry for approval,” Raza added.

It may be noted that inspectors of EU Food and Veterinary Office had visited Karachi Fish Harbour and seafood processing plants in the month of January, 2005 to evaluate and examine sanitation and processing procedures.—APP
