Balochistan security forces on Wednesday foiled a terror bid targeting Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai in the Gulistan area of Killa Abdullah.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, while addressing a press conference in Quetta, said that the suspects, who had planned twin suicide attacks targeting Achakzai, had been arrested and suicide jackets, 16 rockets, 80 landmines, and other weapons had been recovered from their possession.

The attackers were identified as Hamid Bashir from Punjab, and Munawwar from Gulistan, Achakzai's hometown.

Bugti said the suspects belonged to the same terrorist group that was behind the deadly attack on slain Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada.

According to initial reports, the attack on Khanzada was carried out by the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in retaliation for the killing of the former LJ chief, Malik Ishaq, in 2015.

Bugti added that "timely information ensured the terror bid was foiled in time, without the loss of life".
