LAHORE: The Information Technology University (ITU) on Sunday held its first convocation where Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana gave away degrees to the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science graduates.

Addressing the convocation, Mr Rajwana said all the political parties and their leaders were committed to the development of the country while continuous efforts were required to promote social service and justice for the under-privileged.

ITU Vice Chancellor Dr Umar Saif said the university was proud that the students of the first batch of MS Computer Science, BS Computer Science and BS Electrical Engineering had completed their degrees. He said the main purpose of the ITU was to develop a culture of research and entrepreneurship in science, technology and engineering.

Giving details of the performance of the ITU, Dr Saif said the university’s faculty had won grants of Rs700m in competitive researches and published 465 papers in top journals.

The governor gave away degrees to the 139 successful students and gold medals to position holders.

Boston University’s Prof Adil Najam was given honorary doctorate degree of the ITU.
