ISLAMABAD: Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz on Saturday announced his decision to open Sohan Interchange partially to traffic from Jan 1.

The project will, however, complete by Jan 28.

After the partial opening of the interchange, people will be able to use one side of the flyover and slip roads on both sides of Islamabad Expressway leading to east and west service roads.

Due to the ongoing construction work, commuters not only face problem while travelling on the highway but VIP movement also adds to their woes.

The project worth Rs2 billion was awarded in January this year, under which two interchanges at Sohan and Khanna were to be constructed. After completion of projects Islamabad Expressway will become signal free.

Mr Aziz, while visiting the interchange, said the Islamabad Expressway Signal Free Corridor is one of the most important projects of the capital but the sit-in at Faizabad and VVIP movements had slowed down construction work.

“Keeping in view the inconvenience faced by the commuters, I have directed the contractors to work round the clock in three shifts to complete the work within the stipulated time period,” he said.
