PESHAWAR, May 2: Governor Khalilur Rehman said that exchange of delegations and coordination in the fields of education and business will augment good relationship between India and Pakistan. He was talking to a 23-member goodwill delegation from India; representing the Bengal Initiative, a Kolkata based non-governmental organization formed in 1905.

The delegation called on him at the Governor’s House here on Monday. The delegation comprising legislators, businessmen, educationists, artists, sportsmen and industrialists was led by the chairman of the organization, Dr Amiyo Gupta.

They took keen interest in the historical and cultural heritage as well as life in this part of Pakistan with special reference to the historical perspective.

The governor welcomed them and highlighted the importance of exchange of delegations towards the development of people to people contacts of both the countries, said an official handout issued here on Monday.

He highlighted the cultural heritage of the province particularly the historic city of Peshawar and Khyber Pass.

He told the delegation that almost 30 invaders passed through this area from time to time and had a great impact on the cultural values of the people of this area. Their influence could be judged from their way of life even today.

Dr Gupta and other members of the delegation while highlighting the aims and objectives of their organization also mentioned the spirit of goodwill prevailing amongst the people of both the countries.

They suggested that the visits of leading personalities especially from amongst the business community and educationists may be encouraged.

The delegation also visited the University of Peshawar, decades old educational institution of the province, and met Mumtaz Gul, the vice-chancellor of the university.

Dr Gupta said that students could play a pivotal role in promoting peace, fraternity and brotherhood between the two countries.
