Second Lieutenant Abdul Moeed and Sepoy Basharat, both 21, were martyred in the incident, the Pakistan Army's media wing said.

Lt Moeed, a resident of Burewala, Vehari, had recently passed out from the Pakistan Military Academy. Sepoy Basharat, a resident of Danyor village, Gilgit, had been serving in the military for three years, the ISPR statement read.

"Freedom is not free, it costs sons of the soil. Freedom that we enjoy today is owed to so many such brave hearts. Salute to our martyrs," Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Jawed Bajwa was quoted as saying in a tweet by ISPR.

Earlier this month, six were killed when an improvised explosive device, reportedly targetting a military vehicle, went off in North Waziristan. The vehicle was carrying three civilian candidates seeking recruitment in the army. The candidates and three bystanders were killed in the attack.

On October 9, in the first major incident in North Waziristan agency's Razmak subdivision since the army launched Zarb-i-Azb military operation in June 2014, three soldiers were martyred and seven others injured when attackers opened fire on a vehicle belonging to the Frontier Corps.
