Hungarian’s body sent to Islamabad

GILGIT, Oct 20: A Gilgit DHQ hospital ambulance, carrying a partially decomposed body of a Hungarian national, Janos (27), left here for Islamabad around 5pm on Monday where the body would be handed over to the Hungarian embassy, police sources said.

The Hungarian national was found dead in Tarishing valley of Astore sub-division, 110km south of here, near the base camp of Nanga Parbat.

His body was spotted on Thursday by a foreign tourist who also went to the same valley after some days, and reported the case to the Astore police station.

The police said the body was shifted to the DHQ hospital Gilgit to ascertain the causes of the Hungarian’s death.

Hospital sources said on Monday the body was examined by a board of three doctors headed by surgical specialist Dr Shakurullah Baig.

They said the postmortem report was to be finalized after clinical assessments, but apparently the multiple head injuries and cervical bone fracture revealed that the death occurred after the Hungarian slipped from the snow-covered rocks.

Janos had gone to Nanga Parbat base-camp in Astore for climbing in the vicinity of the peak, the police said.

Local people said they had forewarned the deceased of the harsh weather conditions on and around the peak but he did not listen.
