SUKKUR: MMA for unity among Muslims

Published October 21, 2003

SUKKUR, Oct 20: The secretary-general of the MMA, Sindh, and JUI leader Maulana Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, has said that the leaders of the Millat-i-Islamia were themselves involved in the killing of Maulana Azam Tariq.

He stated this while talking to JUI workers at the Abad Lakha village, Sukkur, on Monday.

He said that Maulana Ali Sher Haideri in his statement had held Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat responsible for the killing and now they take pride in meeting him and issuing statements against the MMA.

He said that the statements of Millat-i-Islamia against the MMA had been on someone’s instigation and pose mala fide intentions.

He said that they could see Fiqa-i-Jaffria people in the MMA, but they were unable to see them in the Muslim League and the government itself.

He said, “We don’t do politics over dead bodies, and the Millat-i-Islamia must ask their allies why they did not participate in the Namaz-i-Janaza of Maulana Azam Tariq. Furthermore, they should not press our leaders for arresting the killers of Maulana Azam, but they must press the government for the purpose.”

Dr Soomro said that the leaders of the Millat-i-Islamia were supporting the government just to save their seat but they had failed to save their leader.

He said that today the Ummah was facing challenges from Jews and other anti-Islamic forces; therefore, unity among the Ummah was the need of the hour.

Terming the MMA as the voice of the Ummah, he said that sectarianism had already caused tremendous damage to the unity of the Ummah, butthe MMA had been able to repair the damage to some extent.

He advised the religious clerics, who were opposing the unity of religious parties, to rise above the occasion and stop dancing to the tune of agencies.

He asked them to join the alliance to curb the nefarious designs of anti-Islamic forces.

CONSTABLE KILLED: A constable, Azizullah Panhwar, was killed when some armed men opened fire on a police check post at the Dadu-Moro bridge on Sunday night.
