PPP stands by democracy: Khursheed

KARACHI: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah of the Pakistan Peoples Party said on Sunday that his party stood by democracy and parliament, adding that democratic forces should not be weakened.

The statement by the opposition leader came amid continuing protests across the country following Saturday’s police crackdown on the members of religious parties holding a sit-in at Faizabad interchange.

“Religious matters should not be used for political sloganeering,” Mr Shah said, adding that the PPP leadership had conveyed a clear message against the backdrop of the present situation in the country.
