The Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings on Tuesday announced to appoint left-arm spinner Imad Wasim as captain of the team for the third edition of the league which will be played next year, DawnNews reported.

While talking to DawnNews following the announcement, Wasim said he will try to follow in the footsteps of Shahid Afridi, the president of Karachi Kings, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, the captain of Pakistan's national cricket team.

"I have been handed a responsibility [as the captain of Karachi Kings] and will try to perform to the best of my abilities,” he said.

“I have been playing aggressive cricket for the [national] team and will maintain that while playing for Karachi Kings," he added. "I will not only lead the team [Karachi Kings] in the best way possible but will also concentrate on my individual performance.”

Praising Sarfaraz, Imad said the national team's skipper was "the best thing that happened to Pakistan cricket" in recent times.

He maintained that Sarfaraz's aggression on the pitch did not extend to the dressing room.

"He only gets angry when a player makes a mistake, but off the field or in the dressing room Sarfaraz is the most friendly person."

The left-arm spinner further said that since the two have been playing together from the start of their respective careers, there was no "rivalry or greed" for captaincy among them.

Talking about the current national squad, Wasim said all the players were supportive of each other and the "team has the best environment in the dressing room".
