RAWALPINDI:  The police have launched an investigation and registered a case against unidentified persons after noticing the name of the so-called Islamic State (IS) written in chalk on the rear wall of the State Bank of Pakistan’s building in Saddar on Thursday.

The wall chalking in the high security area in Rawalpindi alerted the police and intelligence agencies who removed it and started looking for those responsible after registering a case against unknown persons.

A police official told Dawn the police were unable to get footage of the culprits from the CCTV cameras in the nearby buildings.

He said the offence on which the case was registered with the Civil Lines police was non-bailable under the Punjab Prohibition of Expressing Matters on Walls Act 1995.

In September, a flag similar to that of IS was found hoisted in the outskirts of the federal capital territory. The Counter Terrorism Department and intelligence agencies have not been able to track down the miscreants yet.

However, the federal government has denied that there were any footprints of the militant outfit in Pakistan.
