MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 25: Indian Shelling injured at least 17 people, mostly women and young girls, during the past 24 hours in different villages of Kotli district of Azad Kashmir, police sources said on Monday.

Eight casualties occurred in Madrassah Taleemul Quran, located on the premises of Baba Kamla’s shrine in Mohra Dharoti village, nearly one kilometre from the LoC, a police official told Dawn from Kotli.

Mohra village falls in Nakyal sector where only two days ago five people were killed and six wounded in indiscriminate Indian shelling.

The official said that a mortar shell landed on the school where girls were taking class. As a result, teacher Zareen, 24, Sobeen Riaz, 12, Sofia Malick, 10, Faiza Suleman, 15, Razia Najeeb, 11, Tayyaba Malik, 13, Gulnar Kausar, 12, and Taweena whose age could not be ascertained, were injured and admitted to nearby hospitals.

Shelling in other parts of Nakyal sector began late in the evening, injuring ten more people late in the night in the villages of Jandrot, Lanjot and Dabsi.

They were identified as Allah Ditta, 60; his wife Shah Jehan, 35, and daughter Zarina, 10; Naseeb Hussain Shah, 45; Tasleem, 25; and her 3-year old daughter Misbah; Maqsooda, 45; Jamila, 25; and Iram; 10.

Another police official said that Indian troops had also shelled Leepa valley in southeast of Muzaffarabad and Forward Kahuta sector in the Bagh district but no losses were reported from those areas.
