HYDERABAD, Aug 25: Ten members of the central committee of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz resigned from the committee membership at the “national congress” of the party held in Sunn on Saturday and presided over by JSQM chief Bashir Qureshi.

However, Mansoor Alam Leghari, Fazal Mohammad,

Ibrahim Soomro, Khan Mohammad Chandio, Niaz Mahar, Zulfiqar Jamali, Allah Rakhio, Abdul Fatah Channa, Hakim Rajpar and Nazeer Ahmad Shaikh did not resign from the basic membership of the nationalist party.

Former senior vice-chairman of the party, Shafi Karnani, Shabbir Jamali and Akbar Soomro and others, who had earlier resigned from their offices, did not attend the supreme decision making body of the party, excepting former JSQM deputy general-secretary Mohammad Rahimoon.

Mr Rahimoon tabled a proposal to constitute a committee to meet breakaway party leaders but his proposal was rejected.

Thereafter, Mr Rahimoon and 10 members of the central committee boycotted the session.

Talking to journalists in Qasimabad here on Sunday, Mr Karnani, Mr Rahimoon and others said they had only resigned from their posts and no one had the authority to terminate their membership.

They said the party chairman was behaving like a dictator and alleged that he was patronizing extortionists. They said such a person could not be accepted as the political heir of the late G. M. Syed.

They claimed that the quorum of the session was also not complete.

They pledged to continue their struggle against extortionists and other undesirable elements in the party.

Answering a question, Mr Karnani said he had certain reservations about the JSQM alliance with the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement.

PPI adds: The congress of the JSQM accepted resignations of its seven office-bearers. The congress, held at the residence of the founder of the party, the late G. M. Syed, was attended by 280 members out of 407.

The leaders, Mr Kirnani, Mr Rahimoon, Mr Jamali, Mr Soomro, Aakash Mallah, Zulfiqar Panhwar and Baghi Bijarani, had resigned in protest against what they called arbitrary decisions of the party chief.

The congress also elected office-bearers in place of those who resigned.

Mujatba Rashdi was elected party’s senior vice-chairman, Dr Niaz Kalani vice-chairman, Arbab Khuhawar deputy secretary-general, Sarmad Mirani treasurer and Bashir Khaskheli, Aslam Khairpuri, Younus Khaskheli and Sattar Abbasi as members of the central committee.
