PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday awarded Rs1 million and a five-marla plot to Inayatullah for winning a gold medal in the World Beach Wrestling Championship held recently in Dalyan, Turkey.

The announcement in this connection was made by KP Sports Minister Mehmood Khan at a reception arranged for Inayatullah at the Qayyum Sports Complex here.

The Pakistani champion earlier defeated Ahmet Faruk Uguz of Turkey in the semi-finals. In the quarter-finals, he defeated Ibrahim Samil Ozak of the home country.

In the final, Inayatullah secured the victory against his rival from Iran with a score of 3-0 in freestyle 70kg cadet event. It was also Pakistan’s first ever gold medal at the championship held in Turkey.

Pakistan had sent Inayatullah and Mohammad Inam, who also grabbed a gold medal in the 90kg senior category. Inam downed his Iranian opponent Pejman Fazlollah Tabar 2-1 in the senior category final to clinch the gold medal in the freestyle competition.
