KARACHI: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on Wednesday held its 8th convocation in which it conferred degrees, medals, and shields to over 1,500 graduates belonging to different disciplines.

The degrees were conferred upon the graduates of MBBS, BDS, pharmacy, nursing, medical technology, undergraduates and postgraduates, and doctorates in various disciplines.

The convocation, organised on the DUHS Ojha campus, began with the national anthem.

Sindh Health Minister and Pro Chancellor of the University Dr Sikandar Mandhro was the chief guest who was received by Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammed Saeed Quraishi.

Addressing the convocation, Dr Mandhro advised medical graduates to serve humanity selflessly when they would formally join the medical field. However, he said it was equally important for them to excel in the field of research.

Dr Mandhro said the provincial government had arranged for a transparent entry test for admission to professional institutions the same day across the province.

He said the chairman of the admission committee, Prof Saeed Quraishi, and members from all medical colleges and the registrar of the provincial government always paid special attention to the health of the people.

Prof Quraishi, VC of DUHS, said he had recently taken charge of the top office of the university, yet, the system had improved with help he got from the management.

Without help of the faculty members and the syndicate, the management and academic system could have not improved, he added.

“Improvement of medical system is on our [list of] priorities and it is highly important for better standard of medical health,” he said.

He appreciated the teamwork in the university, saying he had confidence in his team, which was full of spirit and zeal with the aim to improve the university’s standards and performance.

“We will use every resource and skill we have to ensure that the university has a brighter future.”

Organisers said more than 1,500 graduates were awarded degrees, of them the meritorious graduates were also awarded with medals, which included 25 gold, 30 bronze and 29 silver medals.
