KHAR: A Bajaur Levies man was shot dead in Utmankhel tehsil here on Sunday.

Local administration officials and eyewitness said Hazrat Salam, a sepoy in the Levies force, was on way home in Hayati area of Utmankhel when a man opened fire on him with an automatic rifle, killing him on the spot.

They added the people of nearby area immediately reached the spot, but the attacker had escaped.

The local administration confirmed the incident, saying a personal dispute was the cause behind the killing of Levies man.

An official told Dawn the deceased was on a vacation, saying the alleged killer was arrested during the action conducted by Levies personnel.

Meanwhile, security forces on Sunday seized a huge cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives during an operation in Mamond tehsil. An official of Bajaur Scouts told reporters the weapons and explosives were recovered from Badan Koot area during a search operation. The official added the operation was carried out on a tip-off.

According to the official, the seizure included 30 rocket launchers, 31 rocket fuses, eight hand grenades, 300 rounds of submachine gun, two rocket shells, one shell of 40mm machine gun, five ball bearing boxes, 10, 120mm fuses, nine safety fuses, 10 metre cable, one GPS device and one pistol.
