PESHAWAR: Chief of the General Staff (CGS) of British Army Gen Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter called on Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed Butt at the Corps Headquarters on Saturday.

During the meeting, the British officer was given a briefing on Operation Raddul Fasad, border management, return of temporarily displaced persons as well as development and rehabilitation projects undertaken by the Pakistan Army for tribal people in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Gen Carter also visited a forward post in Khyber Agency, where he was apprised about the achievements and culmination of Operation Khyber IV and Pak-Afghan border fencing.

Later, the CGS toured the Khyber Pass and witnessed the traditional legacy of tribal culture.

Earlier, he laid a wreath at Yadgar-i-Shuhada at the corps headquarters to pay tribute to the martyred of Pakistan Army.

Lt Gen Butt accompanied the visiting dignitary during the visit.

Also on Saturday, Gen Carter reviewed the passing-out parade on the completion of several courses at the Kakul military academy.

Cadets from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Turkmenistan and Libya were among those who completed the courses.

Participants in the parade had completed the 136th Pakistan Military Academy Long Course, 36th Graduate Course, 29th Technical Graduate Course and Integrated Course 55.

Gen Carter, who was the chief guest, spoke on the occasion and distributed awards to distinguished cadets.

The coveted Sword of Honour was awarded to Company Senior under Officer Abdul Hanan Mustafa of 136th Long Course.

The President’s gold medal was awarded to Company Senior under Officer Muhammad Iqbal of 136th Long Course, the overseas gold medal to cadet Hudayberenov Eresh from Turkmenistan of the 136th Long Course while Chief of the Army Staff cane was given to cadet Muhammad Arslan Yousaf of Graduate Course 36th and Company Junior under Officer Saad Hamid of 29th Technical Graduate Course. The commandant’s cane for the best cadet was awarded to cadet Taimoor Azam Khan of Integrated Course 55.

PMA Commandant Maj Gen Abdullah Dogar was present on the saluting dais. A large number of senior serving and retired armed forces personnel as well as parents and relatives of the cadets witnessed the parade.
