KARACHI, Aug 22: Pakistan coach Javed Miandad has been conferred a life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), world’s most distinguished cricket club whose headquarters are based at The Lord’s.

Miandad, 46, received a letter from Roger Knight, the MCC secretary, in which the former Pakistan captain’s consent was sought for the membership for his outstanding contribution to cricket.

“I have sent a memorandum of acceptance to the MCC for the honour bestowed upon me and Pakistan. I am delighted to accept the life membership of such an elite club,” he said on Friday.

Miandad, easily his country’s most prolific batsman with 8832 runs in 124 Tests and another 7,381 in 233 One-day Internationals.

He is the seventh Pakistani to get the exclusive membership, joining in the company of Hanif Mohammad, Fazal Mahmood, Khan Mohammad, Nasim-ul-Ghani, Wasim Raja and Iqbal Qasim.

Established in 1787, MCC generally awards life membership to the cricketers purely on merit and international standing. To date 39 individuals have granted life membership.
