CHITRAL/BATKHELA: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said the religio-political groups will soon form an electoral alliance to sweep the next general polls.

Addressing a public meeting here here in Drosh town on Sunday, the JI chief said his party’s fight against corruption wasn’t aimed at a specific family or person and instead, it was against the evil, which had harmed the country more than its enemy could do.

“We believe that if 6,000 corrupt people, including politicians, bureaucrats and people from other walks of life, are put behind bars and loots are recovered from them, Pakistan can be on the way to progress,” he said.

The JI chief said the ruling elite was united to secure money by committing corrupt practices and that only an honest leadership elected by the people could free the country from it.

He said none of his party’s ministers or lawmakers was involved in corruption and that his party would ensure the best kind of governance in the country in line with Islamic teachings after coming to power in the centre.

Mr Siraj criticised foreign minister Khawaja Asif for criticising the country’s role in Afghan war and said his party was proud of that role, which stopped the imperialist Russia from marching towards Pakistan.

“Such statements are issued by our unscrupulous leaders to please their American masters but they don’t manifest the voice of the people, who hate Americans and its policies,” he said.

The JI chief criticised the government for ‘depriving’ the people of Malakand division and Chitral of the benefits of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project and said tangible steps should be taken to include Chitral in the alternate route of the corridor.

On the occasion, more than 200 activists of different political parties announced they had joined the JI.

In Dargai area of Malakand protected area, the JI chief addressed a public meeting and said after coming to power in the centre, his party would jail over 6,000 corrupt elements for looting the taxpayers’ money.

He also said politics of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif after disqualification by the Supreme Court had come to an end, while the PPP, too, wouldn’t get the people’s votes for failing to deliver.

Mr Siraj said the implementation of Islamic system of governance would ensure the country’s socioeconomic development.
