Balochistan's Frontier Corps (FC) on Saturday successfully averted an attempt at targeting Muharram commiserations in Quetta, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release.

According to the ISPR, a vehicle carrying explosives was discovered during an intelligence based operation (IBO) in Tore Shah, north of Pishin.

The vehicle was to be used to disrupt Ashura proceedings in Quetta, the ISPR claimed.

The ‘mastermind’ behind the plan and his two accomplices have been taken into custody, the ISPR said.

Suspects rounded up in Punjab

In Punjab, Pakistan Rangers, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, conducted flag marches in sensitive areas of the province, the ISPR said.

According to the ISPR, Quick Reaction Forces have been deputed near highly-sensitive areas, while extensive IBOs were carried out in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, DG Khan, Lahore, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

Law enforcement agencies rounded up 27 suspects while a cache of illegal weapons was also recovered, the ISPR said.

'Terror bid foiled in Kohlu'

Levies Forces foiled a terror bid in Balochistan's Kohlu district during a raid in the area on Saturday, Levies sources told DawnNews.

The Levies seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Kohlu's Kahan tehsil after receiving information from an agency.

Kohlu Deputy Commissioner Agha Nabeel Akhtar confirmed the recovery of weapons in the area.

"The weapons were dumped to carry out a subversive act in the area," he said.

The weapons included 150 time bomb fuses, three hand grenades, one mortar gun, a 400 metre detonator card, seven anti-tank mines and other weapons.
