QUETTA: The Sibbi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday granted interim bail to Nawabzada Gazain Marri, but the district administration placed him under detention under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

A notification issued by the Quetta Deputy Commissioner said that Mr Marri would be shifted to the District Jail Quetta under the MPO law as the Judicial Magistrate Quetta-1 had remanded him in Levies custody for another five days.

According to Section 3 of the MPO: “The government, if satisfied that with a view to preventing any person from acting in any manner prejudicial to public safety or the maintenance of public order, may by an order in writing direct his arrest and detention”.

However, the Sibbi ATC judge granted interim bail to Nawabzada Gazain Marri in Kohlu blast case, and also ordered him to deposit Rs400,000 surety bond.

Mr Marri’s lawyer Arbab Tahir had filed the bail application four days ago.

Mr Marri returned to the country last Friday after ending his 18-year self-exile in Dubai. He is facing many cases, including the killing of Justice Nawaz Marri and attack on Levis station in Kohlu which claimed the lives of two personnel and inflicted injuries to another two.
