Rayyan, Yahya in national tennis final

KARACHI: Rayyan Jawwad and Mohammad Yahya cruised into the final of U-14 singles event in the 5th Indus Pharma National Seniors and Juniors Tennis Championship here on Tuesday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Rayyan overpowered Mahatir Muhammad in the first semifinal clash recording a 6-4, 6-3 triumph while Yahya thrashed Ghufran Fiaz by 6-0, 6-4 score to set final date with Rayyan.

In the U-10 singles semifinal, Abdullah Imran defeated Zain Ehtisham by 8-5 and made it to the events final.

In the U-18 singles quarterfinals, Hassan Farooq defeated Mohammad Dada by 7-5, 6-3 .

In the U-18 doubles semifinals, Nauman Aftab paired with Sahibzada M Ali to beat the pair of Samad Arejo and Hadin 8-2 .

In the girls U-18 first round matches, Hania Navaid blanked Rubina 6-0, 6-0. Varsha Das also recorded identical 6-0, 6-0 victory against Xenia Malik while Aisha Ishaq trounced Aysha Yousuf registering identical 6-0, 6-0 triumph. Apsra Shiraz also beat Tehreem 6-0, 6-1.

In the 45-plus singles first round, Kaleem Ghanchi recorded an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory over Akram while Kareem Gul Agha was leading Gul Hameed 6-3 when the latter had to retire and give Kareem a victory.

In the soft tennis quarterfinals, Robin Das blanked Imran Ali by 5-0 score. Saad M Ali also recorded 5-0 victory against Hashash Kumer. Kamran Ahmed faced tough resistance from Zubair Raja before recording 7-5 win. Eibad Sarwar thrashed Sufyan Shiwani by 5-0.
