KARACHI, Aug 20: More than 8500 amateur athletes and officials from 171 nations, including Pakistan will participate in 22nd Summer Universiade, a sports festival of university students from all around the world in Republic of Korea’s Daegu city from Aug 21-31.

Pakistani amateur athletes will take part in tennis, swimming and racing competitions to be held at Daegu World Cup Stadium. The theme of 22nd Summer Universiade, is Dream for Unity and promoting understanding and tolerance.

The events, to be competed at the largest-ever Universiade in history include track and field, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, diving, water polo, taekwondo, archery and judo.

It is held every two years in the summer and winter by International University Sports Federation (FISU). The first festival was held in Torino, Italy in August 1959.—PPI
