Asghar backs govt stand

Published October 4, 2001

NOWSHERA, Oct 3: Praising the stand adopted by President Pervez Musharraf in the event of attacks in New York and Washington, Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan, chief of Tehrik-i- Istiqlal, said that the policy to stand by the international community in the war against terrorism would not only benefit the country, but also ensure the security of its supreme national interests.

“It was a wise decision that will benefit the country in the long run,” the former air chief said while speaking at a Press conference here on Tuesday.

Asghar Khan said the US would not attack Afghanistan, as it was not in its interest to attack a country ruined and ravaged by continuous war.

“Afghanistan is destroyed beyond repair. The Americans would get nothing out of bombing barren mountains,” he added.
