LAHORE: Two minor boys got a new lease of life after going through a successful bone marrow transplant at the Children’s Hospital on Tuesday.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Bilal and four-year-old Aasher were donated marrows by their respective elder sisters.

“Both the donors and the recipients are stable and their health is improving,” Institute of Child Health and Children’s Hospital Dean Prof Masood Sadiq told newsmen at a briefing in the evening.

Mukhtar Ahmed, the father of Aasher, praised the Punjab government, the chief minister and the medical and allied health staff of the hospital for providing his son free bone marrow transplant.

Children’s Hospital Paediatric Gastroenterology Department head Prof Huma Arshad claimed that both children had thalassaemia major, a common disease in Pakistan due to cousin marriages.
