LAHORE: Medical examination and treatment of patients at the newly-constructed block at the Services Hospital has started.

Having a capacity of 330 beds, the nine-floor building would house the outpatient department and indoor wards, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah told newsmen after visiting the facility at Services Hospital on Saturday.

Built at the site of old psychiatry ward and OPD, the new block has 180-bed paediatric unit. Directions have been issued for further improving the digital token (parchi) system at the OPD to facilitate the outdoor and to depute more staff on the special counter established for senior citizens, said Mr Shah while adding that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would soon be formally inaugurating the new OPD block.

Earlier, the secretary took round of paediatrics nursery and wards, pharmacy, pathological laboratory and other parts of the new block along with Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Principal Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz and Services Hospital MS Dr Muhammad Amin.

SYMPOSIUM: Ameeruddin Medical College Principal Prof Ghiasun Nabi Tayyab says outbreak of any disease cannot be controlled without creating awareness among masses.

“Combined efforts by the society and healthcare officials on the pattern of dengue epidemic are needed on a war footing basis to control the threat of viral diseases like H-1 and N-1, known as influenza,” he said in his keynote address at a clinical symposium at Lahore General Hospital on Saturday.
