ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Pakistan’s High Commissioner designate to the United Kingdom Dr Maleeha Lodhi will proceed to London early next month.

Talking to Dawn the other day Dr Lodhi said she would take the charge of new High Commissioner in London on Sept 4.

When asked what her top priority would be as Pakistan’s envoy to UK she said it would be to enhance Pakistan’s image. Other priorities would include intensifying the already broad-based engagement and cooperation between Pakistan and the UK, especially promoting greater trade and investment ties, building better understanding and support for Pakistan’s core foreign policy objectives, serving and mobilizing the large expatriate community, and working to reverse Pakistan’s suspension from the Commonwealth, the HC designate said.

Dr Lodhi said she would particularly be interested in exploring ways of “re-connecting the second and third generation expats with their country of origin” and to mobilize women to work with the embassy to advance Pakistan’s cause.
