Former premier Nawaz Sharif's wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, was on Friday discharged from a hospital in London after undergoing successful treatment for lymphoma a day earlier.
Zayd Hussain, son of Hussain Nawaz, announced through a Twitter post that his grandmother had returned home.
Zayd also expressed his gratitude “for the ongoing prayers” for his family.
Begum Kulsoom had been diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma earlier this month, with doctors hopeful that it would be curable.
She underwent surgery on Thursday and had been moved to the Intensive Care Unit following the procedure.
Successful surgery
Although there has been no official word on the surgery from the Sharif family, Maryam Nawaz, Sharif's daughter, retweeted messages congratulating her upon the successful completion of Begum Kulsoom's treatment.
Begum Kulsoom is the PML-N's candidate for the upcoming NA-120 by-poll on Sept 17. Maryam is running her mother's election campaign in her absence, while the rest of the family is with Begum Kulsoom in London.

Hope her speedy recovery if she really had a cancer and not just enlarged thyroid. She could have had the treatment in Pakistan as hospital are well equipped but they have no trust in Pakistani doctors.

I'm not a doctor but surgery is never an option in casrs diagnosed at an early stage. It's treated with chemotherapy and radiation. I'd like to know where Mrs Nawaz is being treated. They still think they can fool people and get away with it.

The sole reason Pakistan will never have good medical facilities, as it gives politicians and high end criminals good bail out reasons to escape the law of the country. Anyone can state health reason and leave. The wait for a favourable govt to come and lift the charges..... Ex-PM did same.....

Very confusing statements are being given regarding Mrs Shareef illness. First it was throat cancer, than it was said that cancer was diagnosed on blood test and later diagnosis was changed to Lymphoma. Now we hear that she underwent surgery for Lymphoms. As a clinician myself I am really confused. No one do surgery for Lymphoma. Lymphoma is diagnosed on Biopsy of lymph mode and not on blood tests. Medial personal treating should give clear report and confusion must be resolved.

Early stage lymphoma is treated with chemo or radiation or nothing

As long as someone can afford treatment they have a peace of mind in spending for it. Pakistan has now good doctors and healthcare facilities at much less cost. Many have come from US and Canada to get dental implant work in Pakistan at a much less cost and satisfactory results.

Ms kalsoom our prayers are with you. But the Pakistani people deserve to know what is your ailment actually. We heard blood cancer to throats cancer to lymphoma and now surgery for God knows what ailment. Please deal with Pakistani people honestly in a transparent manner as you are contesting elections to a National Assembly seat from a very important city. Lymphoma does not require any throat surgery at all. She might have undergone a lymph node biopsy procedure which is a minor procedure which is usually done under local anaesthesia and does not require ICU care.

Lymphoma needs only a biopsy which does not need shifting the patient to intensive care. The biopsy could be done by any competent surgeon in Pakistan. Finally, I hope taxpayer is not paying for Mrs Kulsoom's expensive foriegn treatment.

What about the boy who died recently under his car during the rally? or millions of children who die due to poverty. This family is been in powers since years and they could have changed that. Can Maryam Safdar clarify whether this was a core biopsy of an infected lymph node? As such a minor procedure is a day case only which certainly does not require recovering in the ICU.
Early stage Lymphoma is treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, not surgery. Advanced stage is treated by anti-body therapies such as Rituximab or stem cell transplants.
