SWABI: Prices of fruit and vegetable have registered a significant increase two days ahead of Eidul Azha, while the vegetable markets are likely to remain closed during the Eid holidays.

The per kilogramme price of tomato has gone up to Rs100 from Rs50, ladyfinger from Rs40 to Rs50, brinjal from Rs30 to Rs50, potato from Rs40 to Rs50 and onion from Rs40 to Rs70.

Prices of other vegetables have also increased ahead of Eid.

The per kilogramme price of green chilies has jumped to Rs120 from Rs80, while the prices of garlic and ginger have gone up to Rs300 and Rs200 per kg, respectively.

Consumers said that there was no official check on prices of essential commodities and the traders were openly violating the official price lists issued by the tehsil municipal officer daily.

Vegetable retailers told this correspondent that the prices were increased by the main dealers and they had to pass them on to the consumers. Similarly the prices of fruits were also increased.

The fine banana is being sold at Rs200 per dozen, peach at Rs150 per kg and apple at Rs250 per kg.

CHARAS SEIZED: Police claimed to have arrested two people and recovered over seven kilogrammes of charas from their possession here on Wednesday.

They said that one Aziz Saleem of Yaqubi village was arrested from the house of a proclaimed offender, Shah Hussain, and five kilogrammes of charas was recovered from him.

In Topi tehsil area, the police recovered over two kilogrammes of charas and arrested several suspects during a search operation.

Police registered a case against them and have started investigation.

CM’s VISIT: Chief Minister Perevez Khattak would visit the district on Thursday (today) to inaugurate gas supply to different areas, said PTI leaders.

They said that the gas supply inauguration ceremony would be held at Kotha and the chief minister would also address a public meeting near Safdar Chowk.
