KARACHI: Ali Jahangir Siddiqui has been appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister with the status of Minister of State.

A notification released by Additional Secretary Rizwan Ahmed on Thursday stated that the prime minister had made the appointment with immediate effect.

Mr Siddiqui is the chairman of the JS Bank Ltd and son of the stock broker-turned-banker, Jahangir Siddiqui.

He has served as a director in Airblue, Lucky Cement, Azgard Nine along with numerous other companies. It is expected that he will advise the prime minister on economic and business matters. At the moment, Miftah Ismael, former chairman of the Board of Investment, is also playing that role.
