QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Balochistan, has arrested a former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police on charges of indulging in corrupt practices involving millions of rupees.
A NAB spokesman said on Wednesday that former DIG Riaz Ahmed owned assets worth Rs280 million in six cities of the country. “Riaz Ahmed bought bungalows and flats in Lahore, Islamabad, Gwadar, Hub, Ziarat and Dera Ghazi Khan in addition to various expensive vehicles,” he added.
He said during interrogation it was revealed that Riaz Ahmed, the former project director for conversion of ‘B’ areas into ‘A’, had transferred millions of rupees in bank accounts of his 35 relatives while he himself possessed National Savings certificates.
“All illegal assets had been seized by the NAB and hunt for the arrest of Riaz Ahmed’s relatives is under way,” he said.
