ISLAMABAD: In connection with the 70-year Independence Day and 50 years’ celebrations of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), the QAU Alumni Association in collaboration with Mohammad Ali Saeed Foundation and the QAU administration planted 1,000 fruit trees on the campus.

“This is the first phase of the drive to plant 5,000 plants on the campus. Sustainable sites have already been selected in consultation with the horticulture cell of the university while in consultation with all the stakeholders a proper monitoring mechanism would be developed to ensure sustainability and maintenance of the plants,” said Umer Saeed of the MASF.

Mohammad Murtaza Noor, Secretary General QAU Alumni Association, said the tree plantation initiative was meant to create a natural and pleasing environment on the campus and to engage students in environment conservation activities. He said the overall 5,000 fruit trees would be planted in two years. Old students of the QAU, he added, would continue contributing to the development and beautification of their alma mater.

Vice Chancellor QAU Dr Javed Ashraf thanked the alumni association and the MASF representatives for their support to initiate the plantation campaign.
