HANOI, Aug 13: The family of a young girl who suffered severe brain damage after being struck by a wayward golf ball has sued the foreigner who hit it for $50,000, officials said on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old girl was hit in February while at a playground near the golf course, said an official from the Bar Association of the southern province of Binh Thuan, 200 km (124 miles) northeast of Ho Chi Minh City.

Her family decided to sue the golfer, playing at the Ocean Dunes Golf club, after the local hospital said she had lost 45 percent of her brain capacity in the accident.—Reuters
