KOHAT: Ikramullah, a student of the Oxford Science School and College, Chokara, Karak district, clinched first position in the higher secondary school certificate (HSSC) examinations as the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat, announced the results here on Friday. He secured 1,001 marks of the total 1,100.

The second and third positions were clinched by Maisam Raza and Naveed Ali of the Cadet College Kohat who got 992 and 991 marks, respectively.

Shields and cash prizes were given to the position-holders of 2017annual examinations at a ceremony held at the BISE, Kohat.

Cadet college bags second and third positions

In the pre-medical group, Maisam Raza and Naveed Ali clinched first and second positions while Abdul Wadood of the Oxford School and College, Chokara, settled for third position with 987 marks.

In the pre-engineering group, Ikramullah stood first with 1,001 marks, Zohaib of cadet college second with 982 and cadet Shah Rukh Afridi third with 976 marks.

In general science group, Kamran Khan of Paradise Children Academy, Sarozai, Hangu, topped with 916 marks whereas in humanities group Mahnoor Najeed of government postgraduate college remained first with 869 marks.

In both part-I and part-II the pass percentage remained 70.51. In all, 34,701 students appeared in the examinations of which 24,470 were declared pass. The BISE chairman gave away prizes to the position-holder students.

SEMINAR: A seminar was held here to highlight the importance of breastfeeding for newborns which works as a shield against diseases and provides necessary nutrients for their better growth.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, the seminar was held under the aegis of family planning association with the collaboration of Unicef and attended by district nazim Naseem Afridi, Dr Abdullah, Dr Mohabat Khan, Dr Haroon and lady health visitors.

They said that the mothers should only feed their milk to the newborn in the first six months followed by solid food. They said that it would create resistance against various diseases among the babies.

Dr Haroon said that mother’s milk helped in forming and maintaining healthy teeth, bones, soft tissue and skin.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner, Kohat, imposed heavy fines on hotels for selling meat on the meatless day. According to a statement, Spin Ghar Hotel was fined Rs100,000 and others Rs150,000.

AC Gul Bano stated that the owners of hotels violating weekly two-day ban would be sent to prison, if found guilty next time.
