KARACHI: A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) delegation, led by retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch, met Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders at the party’s office in Bahadurabad on Sunday to seek its support for Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the PML-N’s candidate for prime minister.

President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the session of the National Assembly on Tuesday to elect the new leader of the house.

MQM leadership, led by Dr Farooq Sattar, informed the PML-N team that the party’s decision to extend its support to PML-N candidate or otherwise would be conveyed to the PML-N after a meeting of the MQM-P’s coordination committee.

The PML-N team comprised Abdul Qadir Baloch, Shaikh Muhammad Aftab, Babu Sarfraz Jatoi and Sindh Governor Muham­mad Zubair. National Party President Mir Hasil Khan Blaoch was also with the PML-N team.

The MQM leaders who took part in the meeting included Dr Farooq Sattar, Aamir Khan and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The PML-N team communicated the message of harmony from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and requested the MQM-P to support Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Farooq Sattar informed the PML-N team about targeted killings of MQM-P workers and issues being faced by the people of the province.

The PML-N team assured the MQM-P leaders that after winning the election for PM office, the federal government would make efforts to resolve these issues.
