Two die in Ahmedabad bomb blast

AHMEDABAD, Aug 10: Two people were killed and 10 others injured when a powerful explosion ripped through a slum here on Sunday, officials said.

Some 17 huts were destroyed by the blast and a subsequent fire in Gujarat’s commercial capital Ahmedabad, said fire officer Bipin Jadeja.

“We have called the forensic officials, but prima facie it seems to be a bomb blast. The bomb was concealed in a garbage dump close to the slum,” a police official said.

The blast occurred in Dani Limda, an Ahmedabad neighbourhood mixed between Muslims and Hindus that saw bloody clashes during last year’s riots.—AFP
