An Indian soldier shot dead a commanding officer over an altercation over a mobile phone in India-held Kashmir, BBC reported Tuesday.

According to media reports, the soldier had been reprimanded after being found using a mobile phone on duty and the device was confiscated.

Indian army officials told BBC that the matter was being investigated.

The incident has raised questions over the already low morale among Indian soldiers stationed in India-held Kashmir, BBC said.

Earlier this year, an Indian soldier serving in the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) had complained of deplorable food and frequent hunger. He was later dismissed after the BSF, in an inquiry, claimed that the soldier had made false charges.
