QUETTA: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected the bail plea filed by MPA Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai in a hit-and-run case, while a district and sessions court granted him bail in a murder case on Saturday.

Mr Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) was arrested on June 24, after CCTV footage of his car running over Traffic Sergeant Attaullah went viral on social media.

Representing the MPA, Advocate Nasibullah Tareen filed a bail application in the court of Judge Dawood Khan Nasar, but the ATC Quetta-II judge rejected the plea.

Separately at the hearing of a murder case registered against Mr Achakzai at the Civil Lines police station in 1992, District and Sessions Judge Rashid Mehmood set bail at Rs300,000 and issued a release order for the MPA who is currently on judicial remand.

During the hearing of a third case, this time on a kidnapping charge, Judicial Magistrate Saddam Baloch heard the bail application submitted before his court but reserved his judgement till Monday.
