HYDERABAD, Jan 4: The children of Barrage Colony, Jamshoro, held a token hunger strike against Hesco outside the press club on Friday.
Talking to newsmen, they said that the power supply was disconnected by Hesco two months ago as a result of which their education was being badly affected.
They said that the irrigation department failed to settle the issue with Hesco. They further said that the district administration took no notice of their plight.
They said that the colony was the biggest residential area of Jamshoro having many schools, but without electricity the students could not study at all and an entire year would be wasted.
The area councillor, Abdur Rauf Rahimoon, told newsmen that the residents of the colony had paid an instalment of Rs500,000 to Hesco on Dec 15 for the restoration of the power supply.
However, after four days only it was disconnected again without any notice.
He appealed to the president, the Sindh governor, the chairman, Wapda, and the Sindh irrigation minister to direct Hesco to restore the power supply to the colony.
LABORATORY: The first meeting of the committee for setting up a high technical central resource laboratory at the University of Sindh was held on Friday.
The scheme’s project director, Prof Asif Ali Qazi presided over the meeting.
He briefed the meeting about the establishment of the laboratory on the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Islamabad.
The meeting discussed the available facilities in all the science departments.
It decided to submit the proposal for the establishment of the laboratory within a week and urged the departments to present their report regarding the available books, equipment, and future needs.
