compensation: Thousands of farmers in Pasrur tehsil’s villages along the Sialkot working boundary are still waiting for the financial compensation promised to them by the Punjab governor about a year ago.

Pasrur Nazim Maqsood Ahmad told newsmen that due to tension between Pakistan and India during 2001-02, the armed forces had planted landmines in villages near the border, because of which thousands of farmers were unable to cultivate seasonal crops for four consecutive years. During his visit to Chawinda (Pasrur tehsil) in Sept 2002, Punjab Gov Khalid Maqbool had announced compensation for the affected farmers.
