Nai Gaj Dam

Published June 29, 2017

THE Nai Gaj Dam is a mega project of the federal government in Sindh. It was started in 2011. The dam will generate 4.2 MWs of electricity after completion.

The dam will irrigate 28,800 acres in Johi Tehsil and also provide water to 300,000 acres in Dadu district. Furthermore, the dam is also supposed to add 50 cusecs of water to Manchar lake. This input will help reduce pollution in Manchar lake.

The completion date of the mega project was 2015 but work is still not complete. Officials now hope the project will be completed in 2018. However, the ground reality is that only 37 per cent work on the dam has been done to date. One wonders how the dam will be completed by 2018.

It is my humble request to the authorities concerned to ensure completion of the project as besides adding power to the national grid, the poor of Kacho in Johi Tehsil will be able to cultivate their lands.
