MUZAFFARABAD: A man and a young boy were killed and seven injured after being hit by a loaded truck when its driver lost control in Bagh on Friday.

The accident happened at about 9am on the steep water supply road which connects the main city with the bus stop.

The truck hit pedestrians and two vehicles, including an ambulance, before it came to a halt.

A 70-year-old man identified as Abdul Aziz died on the spot and 11-year-old Ashir died from his injuries in a hospital in Rawalakot in the afternoon.

At least seven others, including Ashir’s mother were injured. Ashir was in his school uniform and was going Eid shopping with his mother, a witness, Azhar Abbasi, told Dawn.

The police arrested the truck driver who claimed he lost control of the vehicle because the brakes had failed.

Some witnesses said he might have fallen asleep which is how he lost control of the truck.

Locals blame the administration for the accident as heavy vehicles are not allowed on this road but the loaded truck had managed to enter it and was not stopped.
